The Ship Less Travelled

Behind What We Do — Part 2

Logged: September 2, 2025

We return for the second part of our behind-the-scenes series — and this time, we go a little deeper into the conversations that shape a truly well-matched voyage.

Why do we ask so many questions before making a single recommendation? Why does budget matter not just for cost, but for managing expectations honestly? And what happens when the voyage a client has set their heart on is no longer available — or when the timing simply does not work?

We walk through the kinds of situations that arise more often than one might think:

• The cabin category that has already sold — and what to consider instead

• The itinerary that is a little too long for the time available

• How to balance candour, realism, and genuine enthusiasm when planning something that matters to someone

We also address three questions that every travel specialist ought to be able to answer with complete honesty:

✅ What do we most enjoy arranging?

✅ What are we prepared to arrange, even if it falls outside our specialism?

✅ What lies beyond what we are best placed to offer?

At its heart, travel planning is about understanding people — their preferences, their rhythms, and what will genuinely suit them. Our aim is always the same: to ensure that when you travel, you do so with the right voyage, chosen with knowledge, honesty, and care.
